F.A.Q
Q. What will happen during the free consultations?
A. Ideally I'd like two meetings before you go away the first time, and usually one after you come
back, to return keys and take payment. During this final meeting I will let you know how your cat behaved while you were away, and I can also WhatsApp or Email any pictures of your cat to you, should you wish.
All my consultations are free of charge and these give us all a chance to get to know one another better.
1st Meeting - Introduction, documentation and testimonial presentation, cat details and booking details taken.
- Please allow approx. 50/60 minutes.
2nd and 3rd Meetings - usually combined - Booking contract signed and confirmation of remaining details, plus key exchange and test -
Please allow approx. 30/40 minutes.
4th Meeting - After you’re home and have paid me - Key return.
- Please allow approx. 5/15 minutes.
During the free initial meeting I would hope to meet your cat/s, meet you and show you my documentation including my DBS police disclosure, passport, public liability insurance, driving licence, and also with prior request for testimonials from previous clients, including photos of their happy cats.
We will discuss your cat's requirements, (what food, feeding times, how they like it served, etc.) to try to keep their routine as normal as possible for them while being 'home alone', and also any requirements or questions you may have.
I will explain the levels of service offered, and you can consider over what best suits you and your cats.
During this initial meeting I may ask to see the feeding area, so that initial notes can be made, during this time I will also be asking general questions about your cat(s); such as; their general
health, diet, routine, food bowls and cat-cutlery used, any medication, favourite toys, normal (and naughty) behaviour, likes and dislikes, where they are not allowed to go, and if they are up-to-date with their flea and worming treatments, as well as which vets they are registered with, and where their cat carrier is located, to name just a few.
I will leave with you my contact details along with a few documents for you to sign, and hand back in the meetings to follow.
After that a further free meeting (or meetings) are normally arranged in order to go through any other points; I see any areas around your home of importance, we'll sign the paperwork, confirm the details in the BCS service contract, and hand over and test your keys. Also to hand back the forms I gave you during our initial meeting.
Your keys are then tagged and placed in my digital safe until needed.
Don't forget, you can always leave me a note if you remember anything else we've not already covered!
All I then ask is that you call, text, or email me to confirm you're home safe, we then have seven further days to arrange the meeting of key exchange and payment.
I then pop back at a mutually convenient time for the final free, 4th meeting; return your keys, give you the run-down on how it went, take payment, that is if you’ve not already paid me by BACS or bank transfer, and any further dates I might be needed ... and then my service is then complete!
For re-bookers it's a much simpler process with just a 'Sign & Swap' meeting to finalise the details, and I can also retain your keys should you wish, and I can take re-bookings by text and email, eliminating the need for any meetings.
I do always prefer information to be in writing by either Whatsapp, Text, or Email, as it reduces the chances of miscommunication.
Q. What if my cat becomes unwell whilst in your care?
A. I will try my very best to contact you and take your cat to its usual vets if possible, in the event of an out-of-hours emergency then your cat will be taken to the nearest 24 hour vets to you.
My Public Liability will provide cover for if your cat becomes ill or sick, gets lost, or passes away whilst in my care AND due to my negligence, but it is your responsibility to ensure your cats are insured and vaccinated, and I'd expect you to inform me of any pre-existing problems, medical or otherwise.
Q. What times and days do you visit?
A. My working hours are 9.30am to 7.30pm, 7 days a week and my normal cat feeding times vary between 9.30-11.30 each morning and 4.30-7.30 each evening.
Service times are agreed at the consultations, subject to you and your cat's requirements.
Please note that in order for me to keep my mileage and service charges at their lowest possible, I do my clients in the best route possible.
My bookings are also made on a first come, first serve basis so if you would like a specific time then I will do my best to accommodate you, subject to any prior bookings, the service level required, and of course, your location.
Cats that require medicine at a certain time take priority as well.
Q. Are you insured & CRB checked?
A. Yes, I am a proud member of NarpsUK* and also have Public Liability cover (to cover any accidental damage I cause to your home or contents) for up to £2 million cover.

*National Associates of Registered Pet Sitters
*DBS check previously called a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check.
Q. Are my house keys safe in your care?
A. Of course! Don't forget that my Public Liability covers your keys while in my care, including during transport. And whilst not in use your keys are kept in a locked safe.
They are also never addressed with your details, only with your cat's names and sometimes your general location. Plus I don't keep keys and contracts together.
Q. Do you have a minimum charge?
A. Yes, there is a minimum charge per total booking of £10.00 - but this only applies to clients that I am not already a key holder for.
Q. What happens if you are off sick?
A. The service I provide is my number one priority so I would have to be hospitalised (or worse!) in order for me to not to visit my foster cats. Should something terrible happen to me then my next of kin would be informed and you would be contacted to see what you wanted to do.
Q. Is it only you, Vicky, who will enter my property during the contract?
A. Yes most definitely. I do not sub-contract out my work and I will not be bringing anyone along with me either.
I assume you've set up secret cameras whilst you're away - so I give a high level of service and care to all my clients.
Q. Who provides the food while I'm away?
A. You would do and I would ask you to leave out (or show me which cupboard) the food and litter needed to cover the time you're away, including any treats you'd normally give. If supplies of food or litter run out, a shopping trip charge of £5 will apply plus the cost of the required item.
Q. Will I still be charged if I arrive home earlier than agreed and you don't have to make the final visit?
A. This depends on if I have already left for your home or if I arrive at your home expecting to do the visit. If I haven't left and if you've given me enough notice then no; that visit and any other remaining ones are then removed from your contract and you are not charged for them. However if I arrive at yours and you are already home without telling me then a half cost charge will apply.
Q. Will you look after other animals other than cats?
A. Although my specialty is cats, other animals (except dogs) such as fish, hamsters, rabbits, hedgehogs, gerbils, mice, rats, birds, tortoises, snakes, tarantulas, iguanas, bearded dragons, stick insects etc. are accepted but subject to the negotiation of further charges, plus services are normally restricted to the feeding/watering & waste removal of other animals only, rather than the complete cleaning out of cages or tanks.
I am insured for all household pets including all the above, however farm yard animals (this includes horses, chickens, pigs, and ducks) are not included.
Please ask me for further details and prices as different animals have different costs, depending on the work involved.
Please note, the feeding of fish in ponds or tanks is free but charges apply for all other animals.
Q. Is there a reason you won't sit for dogs?
A. Yes there is... I won't smell of dog, or have dog hair or dog slobber on me; and that's just a few of the ways that what I offer is different. Also, I'm not really a 'dog person' much much more a cat person... and ultimately it's for your cat's maximum relaxation, comfort, and enjoyment during this stressful time of you being away, as well as my total devotion and love for cats that I have chosen not to extend my services to include dogs.
Q. Do you have any relevant qualifications and passed courses?
A. Yes and yes, In order to be a registered pet sitter with NarpsUK I have passed (100%) their required courses. I have also passed various feline and pet related courses as well as passing (with a distinction) a feline behaviour & psychology diploma, as well as passing my pet sitting diploma with a distinction as well.
All my course certificates are shown to you during our initial free consultations.
Q. Do you accept urgent, late, or last minute bookings?
A. Although I like to be given sufficient notice, I understand this is not always possible.
Therefore should less than 48 hours notice be given, an additional one off fee of £15.00 is applied to new clients.
-For rebookings, this is reduced to 24 hours and £5.00 if key's have been retained or dropped through my letterbox and request taken by email or text.

Q. When would you like paying? Do you require a deposit?
A. After you're home & No, it's alright. * Please note I’m fully booked currently with diabetic cats so can’t take any more on.
Q. My cat requires medication, is that a problem?
A. Not a problem at all. I have injected cats before, as well as administering tablets and capsules, in various different ways so that it is successful - down the throat, hidden in food, mixed in with paste or pâté, crushed up and mixed with milk, or powered/hidden inside a meaty stick, etc.
Q. My rescue cat is quite timid and may hide from you, is that OK?
A. Of course, I totally understand why a cat will hide and can empathise with them, so I do my best to encourage them to come out and meet me. If you inform me your cat is quite nervous then I'll bear that in mind and make sure I keep the exits clear when we meet. This normally works well and we bond; owners are often surprised when they return home and see their cat greet me like the good friend to them I have become.
Q. I've never left my cats alone before and will miss them terribly, are you able to send me pictures while I'm away?
A. Yes I can, and I enjoying showing you your cats are fine and happy whilst you're away. I take pictures on my phone of your cats on my evening visits, and I'm happy to email or text them to you while you're away if requested. I often use the phone app 'Whatsapp' with clients as it sends time-stamped texts and pictures worldwide for free.
Q. I've two cats, a dozen fish and a dog. If I place the dog in kennels while I'm away, could you help?

Q. I've had problems with pet sitters in the past, how can I ensure you'll satisfy both my cat and myself to the highest level?
A. Hopefully once we meet and after I've shown you my previous satisfied cats and clients you will feel relaxed, and I've clients that are happy to speak to you should you wish. I also have the highest levels of standard of care and respect for your cat and property at all times; I never use your kitchen bin, and you could come home early at any time, and still find your home neat and tidy.
Having been a professional cat sitter for over 11 years I’ve had the pleasure of looking after over 700 different cats and my rebooking rate is plus 95%.
BCS has taken rebookings into all of this year and some already of next year, so hopefully once you're home and the service is complete; with both you and your cat relaxed and happy... You'll happily write a testimonial and you'll all be satisfied; smiling and happy.
Q. I've three long haired, indoor cats and I'm away for a fortnight, they moult like anything, would you be able to hoover on the last day at all?
A. Certainly! That's not at all a problem, and it's covered in my insurance. Simply request it with a Gold service and show me where your vacuum cleaner is kept, I'll do the rest.
(Otherwise expect a LOT of fur!)
Q. I go away a lot with work, sometimes at late notice, are you able to retain my keys and help out when needed?
A. Yes and I'd be happy to help, this is quite a common situation for me. We would have a monthly contract and your keys would be kept securely while not in use, tagged only with your cat's name.
Q. One of my cats is quite often sick, are you OK and not squeamish about cleaning it up?
A. I am used to cat sick of all sorts, as well as everything else that comes with professionally looking after cats (live/dead mice, and varying degrees of dead or half-eaten animals of all sorts). So no - it wouldn't be a problem, and I am also insured for cleaning as well as having the highest respect for your property at all times. I have a couple of items in my bag to help me, but I'd expect you to be fully equipped (kitchen roll, carpet cleaning spray, anti-bac spray/and or wipes, plus bin bags etc) to deal with such occurrences.
Q. What will my cats do while I'm away??
A. Sleep a lot more mostly. They will obviously miss you a lot, but they are in the comfort and safety of their own home, where they can sleep, wash, relax, doze, preen, nap and do other cat related things and wait for you to come back... With me coming in with strokes, cuddles, treats, head kisses, (and maybe a free toy!) and to serve food, water, and of course sort litter trays if required.
They have nothing to fear and they're in familiar surroundings with their scent areas already marked so although they may get a bit lonely, and will miss you... they are safe, warm, comfortable and at ease without any additional stresses, strains, or fears other than you being away.
As your cat begins to get to know me they feel more relaxed.
So please do get in contact if you're interested in booking my services.
It's never too early!
Thank you very much.
